A practical guide to planning, writing, and optimizing service pages on your business website – with clear steps and examples.
When someone searches for the service you offer, they rarely want to browse through your entire website. They want a quick answer: can this business solve my problem? A service page should provide that answer clearly and convincingly. This guide shows you how to write a service page that is useful to visitors and optimized for search engines.
Many small and medium businesses list all services on one generic page. That saves time, but it makes it harder for Google to understand what you actually do. With a dedicated page for each service, you can target a specific keyword and address a specific customer problem. Example: if you run a plumbing company in Birmingham, separate pages for emergency plumbing, leak repair, and water heater installation will be far more effective than a single list.
Start by researching the words your customers use. Don't try to cram everything into one page. Pick one main phrase, such as 'emergency plumber Birmingham' or 'bathroom remodel'. Use it in the H1, in the first paragraph, and in at least one H2. Add related terms like 'pricing', '24/7 service', or 'free estimate', but only where they fit naturally.
A service page should not sound like a list of features. It should show that you understand the customer's problem and have a solution. A good order is:
Customers trust examples, not superlatives. Instead of saying 'we are the best', show how you solved a similar problem. If you have photos from real projects, short case descriptions, or testimonials, include them. Protect client privacy and only publish with permission. Specific numbers also help – for example, 'working since 2012' or 'serving up to 10 clients a day' – as long as they are true.
If you provide services in a specific city or region, mention that location in the headline and text. Include a list of areas you cover and, if relevant, nearby landmarks. This helps both users and local SEO. You can also embed a map when the physical address matters for the service.
Internal links help Google and users. Link the service page to relevant blog posts, related services, and your contact page. This makes it easy for visitors to continue towards an inquiry and shows search engines which pages are most important for a given topic.
Do not copy text from a manufacturer or competitor. Avoid generic phrases like 'we offer high-quality services at affordable prices'. Do not put all content in one large block – use subheadings, lists, and buttons. And don't ignore page speed; a slow website will drive customers away no matter how good the text is.
A service page is a crucial element of any business website. When it is well structured, focused on a specific keyword, and backed by proof, it attracts more relevant visitors and turns them into inquiries. Start with one of your most important services, do it well, then repeat the process. If you need professional help optimizing your service pages, the KG-SCRIPTS team can support you.
